Last Saturday a massive team went out saree and jewellery shopping for my sis-in-law's wedding in November.
We roamed about in several shops in Deshapriya Park - Gariahat area. [Hubby did a great job with the parking btw.]
We navigated the super-dominant salesman in Adi Dhakeswari and the completely-disinterested salesman at Priyagopal Bishoyi to swoop down on Benarasi Kuthi. The salesman here was soft-spoken. He took great care in displaying the different shades of red. The zari embroidery was finer here than in the other stores. He did make certain snide comments about sis-in-law's complexion which did not go down well with me. But when he draped the alta-pink meets red coloured meenakari Benarasi on the bride-to-be, the glow on her face was hard to miss. I remembered the TLC show 'Say Yes To The Dress'.
The bride's mom and dad gifted me a cotton gadwal. It was a pretty shade of orange with a turquoise-blue and parrot-green border. The joy of this saree helped my swim past the Monday morning blues.
